Electricity has been restored for more than 8,000 homes and businesses in a wide area of southwest Las Vegas after an overnight power outage apparently caused by a fire at a utility substation, authorities said.

NV Energy said power was restored to the last affected customers a little before 6 a.m. Friday.

Clark County firefighters responded about 11:15 p.m. Thursday to the fire that lit up the night sky near South Decatur and West Silverado Ranch boulevards.

Air conditioners were idled for residents on a night the National Weather Service reports temperatures remained in the 90s.

Las Vegas police evacuated an unspecified number of homes, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

Fire officials reported no injuries and said investigators were trying to determine the cause of the fire.
