The city of Las Vegas is closing all playgrounds at its parks because of the coronavirus outbreak, although the parks themselves will remain open, official said today.

“Concerns were raised that social distancing was often difficult to maintain in playground areas. Gov. Steve Sisolak also called for the closing of playgrounds because of so many high-touch surfaces,” the city said in a statement.

The city’s 70 parks will remain open for groups of less than 10 people as long as individuals practice social distancing by staying at least six feet apart, officials said.

The city will continue normal cleaning of the parks, and restrooms will remain open so people can wash their hands, officials said.

Park users also may want to bring hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes if they touch surfaces used by other people, officials said.
