Metro Police arrested a hit-and-run driver, and were searching for another, following a fatal auto-pedestrian crash Friday night near Maryland Parkway and Twain Avenue in central Las Vegas.

Brandon Christopher Lopes, 19, was booked on one count each of DUI resulting in death, failure to stop at the scene of an accident, possession of a gun by a prohibited person and possession of stolen property over $3,500, jail logs show. He was also being held on an out-of-state fugitive warrant.

Police were also trying to identify a second motorist who ran over the 63-year-old victim after Lopes hit him about 9:20 p.m. That person was in a vehicle of unknown make or mode.

According to an account provided by police, the victim was crossing Maryland Parkway outside a designated area when Lopes’ 2003 Ford Escape, which was heading south, smashed into him.

The Escape, which was occupied by Lopes and three female passengers, lost control and crashed into a curb, police said. His passengers also were being sought by authorities.

Meanwhile, the second vehicle ran over the victim on the ground, and dragged him through the road without stopping, police said.

Lopes, a Vallejo, Calif., resident, was “quickly apprehended by arriving officers,” police said.
