LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Where shall we honor Trump?

Sat, Nov 28, 2020 (2 a.m.)

There is still a monumental issue to be decided, whether or not President Donald Trump vacates the White House.

Trump has coveted a bust of himself on Mount Rushmore, but does he belong there? In fact, he has done a good deal to demean the legacy of the presidents who already are depicted there.

After all, the president has not exactly been the exemplar of personal honesty that George Washington was.

He has not crushed the national debt like Thomas Jefferson did, but has doubled down on trillions more.

The chief executive has not pushed for African American suffrage and pro-American union like Abraham Lincoln did. Instead he has begged for blue-state voter suppression and partisan fractiousness, almost to the extent of the Confederate seceders of Lincoln’s day.

The White House under Trump has not crusaded for antitrust laws, like Theodore Roosevelt did, but has done all in its power to boost the wealthiest 1% of Americans.

No, Trump’s monument needs to be much smaller, and perhaps located at Mar-a-Lago instead.
