Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino will become one of the last Las Vegas Strip resorts to reopen after the COVID shutdown when it returns on Oct. 8, but one of its most popular amenities and biggest draws has been operating since June 9.

The Miracle Mile Shops, the indoor mall featuring more than 200 shops, restaurants, bars and live entertainment venues that winds around the Planet Hollywood casino, is the only major retail destination on the Strip to stay open while its resort partner remained closed. The resort’s massive parking garage has also been open since June, providing additional access to the mall, which also has two pedestrian entrances on Las Vegas Boulevard adjacent to indoor-outdoor restaurants Cabo Wabo and PBR Rock Bar & Grill.

“From the time we reopened, we really focused on touchless experiences, safety and cleanliness to make sure when people came back, they felt comfortable shopping and dining,” said Wendy Albert, senior director of marketing for Miracle Mile. “Now almost 90 percent of our shops and vendors are open, and some of those that aren’t include our two theaters. But they are ready to go with safety measures in place once the governor gives approval for [shows] to resume.”

The presence of the V Theater and Saxe Theater venues, operated by David Saxe Productions, also makes the Miracle Mile unique among malls on the Strip. This week’s announcement that Vegas shows will be allowed to resume with limited capacity audiences clears the road for shows like “Vegas! The Show,” “V – The Ultimate Variety Show” and “Zombie Burlesque” to return to the mall soon.

“We really feel very fortunate having those theaters at the property because it’s another opportunity for customers to have an experience they just can’t have at their home shopping centers,” Albert said.

Where many malls on the Strip skew toward luxury shopping, the Miracle Mile Shops maintains a focus on providing brands and stores that are affordable, approachable and fun, she said. Its center-Strip location and easy access for pedestrians and locals have kept the destination relatively busy during the pandemic, and the Elara Hilton Grand Vacations hotel, which reopened June 18, is also connected to the mall and has been driving additional traffic.

One of the newest retailers is The Raider Image, the official store of the Raiders, which boosted buzz at the mall recently with a giveaway of exclusive team merchandise for customers who spent $200 at any of the Miracle Mile stores over the course of a few days leading up to the Raiders’ historic debut at Allegiant Stadium on Sept. 21.

“The gift with purchase was a Raiders hat that’s not available for purchase, one only the team and its associates would have access to, and for customers to be able to get that here was great,” Albert said. “The Raider Image store had long lines over that weekend and it’s just great to be able to come to Las Vegas, to see the stadium and go to these team stores and find unique team products.”

The mall is also offering curbside pickup areas for shoppers who don’t want to visit the physical shops and a digital coupon book and store and restaurant directory on its app.

The Miracle Mile Shops are open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. with some restaurants staying open later. For more information, visit miraclemileshopslv.com.
