Officers were investigating a disturbance at an apartment complex early today when a man fired shots at them, prompting one officer to return fire, according to Metro Police.

No injuries were reported.

The incident took place shortly after 3 a.m. in the 3500 block of Villa Knolls North Drive, near Tropicana Avenue and Pecos Road, police said.

While officers were investigating a possible shooting, they located a person with an outstanding temporary protection order against them, police said. As they were serving that order, a man approached and fired shots at them, police said.

The man fled, and officers chased him before he turned and fired again, police said. The officer again returned fire and took cover, police said.

Officers lost sight of the man and were searching for him this morning, police said.

The incident was Metro’s16th officer-involved shooting this year.
