LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Rallies mock Christian values

Fri, Oct 30, 2020 (2 a.m.)

As a child, I often went to Christian summer camps. Following three years in the military, I attended a Southern Baptist liberal arts college. I then attended graduate school at the University of Utah. These life experiences were the foundation of my thoughts on Christianity.

To be a true Christian requires more than mouthing a few words of faith, either privately or publicly. A practicing Christian must also show respect to others. This includes respecting the right to life.

When I see President Donald Trump and many of those attending his rallies risk the lives of others by ignoring the consensus of medical experts and neither wearing masks nor practicing social distancing, I can accept that they profess to be Christians. However, by failing to respect others’ lives, I do not see them demonstrating Christian principles.
