Why the fuss over names?

I’d wager that if you conducted a poll about the name Carson or Fremont and asked locals if they were offended by the names, 95% of those people (who actually knew who they were) would say no. So the answer the question raised by the Sun in its recent editorial about Kit Carson Elementary School — “How to address the public tributes to Carson and Fremont in modern times?” — is do nothing at all. Don’t we have more pressing issues to contend with?
