Clark County is prepared to spend nearly half a million dollars to upgrade its ballot-reading capability for the upcoming election and beyond.
County commissioners approved an amendment Tuesday to the existing contract with Dominion Voting Systems to provide ballot-reader equipment and related software ahead of the November election. The contract amendment is worth $469,000 if the county continues to use the software through 2032.
The commission passed the expenditure without discussion.
The county has added on to the Dominion contract four times since it first formed its partnership in 2016. With this week’s addition, the contract with the Denver-based firm is worth $28.7 million.
The augmented contract comes ahead of a watershed election where every registered voter in Nevada will be issued a mail-in ballot and same-day registration at the polls takes effect statewide.
The first batch of local mail-in ballots will go out Oct. 7, Clark County Registrar of Voters Joe Gloria told the commission.
