Police: NLV elections office evacuated after substance found on letter

Mon, Sep 28, 2020 (3:55 p.m.)

Police said today a substance found on a letter that prompted a four-hour evacuation at the busy Las Vegas-area elections operations center turned out to be deodorant gel.

Investigators including police and a regional hazardous materials team were trying to trace the origin of the envelope, which had no return address, and the intent of the sender, North Las Vegas police Officer Alexander Cuevas said.

A spokesman for county Registrar of Voters Joe Gloria said no damage, illnesses or injuries were reported at the Clark County Election Office in a business park several miles north of the Las Vegas Strip, and roads in the area remained open.
