FALLON — The Nevada Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the death of a boy who was struck by a pickup truck while waiting for a school bus last week in rural Churchill County.

The patrol said Tuesday investigators are trying to find additional witnesses who may have seen Friday’s crash just north of Fallon near U.S. Highway 95.

The victim was one of three juveniles waiting for the bus at the corner of Rice Road and Carson River Road when a westbound 2014 GMC pickup veered off the road and hit him at about 11:48 a.m.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say they don’t know why the truck left the roadway.

Trooper Hannah DeGoey said Tuesday the male driver remained at the scene and was not arrested. She said the investigation will determine whether any charges will be filed.

She said they’re hoping to locate someone who observed the vehicle’s driving pattern prior to the crash. Anyone with information should contact the patrol via email at [email protected] and reference NHP Case #200901637.
