A mountain lion suspected of roaming a Summerlin neighborhood for several weeks was captured today and released into the mountains surrounding Las Vegas, Clark County officials said.

The 60-pound, female cat was spotted about 15 feet up a tree in the Summit Club community, in the area of Town Center Drive and Flamingo Road, officials said.

County Animal Control and Nevada Department of Wildlife officers used tranquilizer guns to sedate the animal, which was transported to the foothills of the Spring Mountains, officials said.

The animal was administered a medicine to reverse the effects of the tranquilizer, and after about 90 minutes, the lion fully recovered and returned to the wild, officials said.

Officials said they believe the mountain lion is the same one that has been reported in the area in recent weeks.
