Metro Police announced road closures scheduled for Friday ahead of the funeral procession for NHP Trooper Micah May, who was killed in action last week during a chase.

The procession is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. and leave from Palm Mortuary, located on 1325 N. Main Street, police said in a news release. May will be escorted down southbound Interstate 15 to Spring Mountain Road. The route will continue to Las Vegas Boulevard and travel south to the 215 Beltway. It will then proceed eastbound to the U.S. 95 Henderson interchange. From there, the procession will turn northbound onto U.S. 95 to Central Christian Church, 1001 New Beginnings Drive, in Henderson.

A second procession will immediately follow the funeral to Palm Eastern Mortuary & Cemetery, where May will be laid to rest.

May, 46, died last Thursday from injuries sustained in a chase July 27. According to officials, May was deploying “stop sticks” in an attempt to catch a suspected carjacker on I-15 near Sahara Avenue.

May was hit by the driver, though officers were able to stop the vehicle. After the vehicle was stopped, the driver — identified as Douglas Claiborne, 60 — reached for May’s weapon and was shot and killed by officers, authorities said.

The Clark County Coroner’s office said Claiborne died of gunshot wounds to the head and chest and the death was ruled a homicide.

May was airlifted to University Medical Center in critical, where he remained until succumbing to his injuries. The 13-year Highway Patrol veteran is survived by his wife and two children.

A vigil was held for May on Tuesday and his funeral services, which are open to the public, will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Central Church.
