Jaquieze Holland carried the ball 31 times for 225 yards on Friday night for the Shadow Ridge football team in a 31-22 victory against Centennial.

After losing to Centennial by close margins in 2018 and 2019, hanging on for the win in a back and forth game was a great way to open the season, Shadow Ridge coach Travis Foster said.

“We match up well with them, they match up well with us,” Foster said. “It’s a relief to finally win one of the closes ones.”

Shadow Ridge led 13-0 in the first quarter, but Centennial stormed back to score twice — and get the 2-point conversion — for a 16-13 halftime edge. Shadow Ridge opened the scoring in the third quarter to take the lead for good.

“It was a roller coaster of a football game. The kids met the adversity and were able to come back and win the game,” Foster said.

Maddyx Valenzuela and Jonah Ruiz had rushing scores for Shadow Ridge, and Coen Coloma had a touchdown pass to Dylan Wood.
