The Taliban have had safe haven in Pakistan for decades, recently moving back to Afghanistan to continue their successful war against that state. The United States and its allies have been fearful to advance the war into Pakistan because many of its government officials support the Taliban, and the country has nuclear capability.
To believe that the Taliban will stop expanding its influence would be a huge mistake. The Taliban already have a foothold in Pakistan and will most certainly use that leverage to take control of the Pakistani government.
I don’t have a solution, but are the United States and its allies ready to have nuclear weapons in the hands of the Taliban?
This war is not over. It is merely an exercise in how not to handle what is to come.
