A reckless driver trying to evade Bullhead City police crashed early Tuesday morning, leaving his passenger with life-threatening injuries, said the police department in Arizona.
The critically injured victim was flown to a Las Vegas hospital, while Marion Paul Tilley, 29, was taken into custody as he hid in a shed, police said.
Tilley, of Campbell, Calif., was being held in Arizona's Mohave County, about 130 miles southeast of Las Vegas, on multiple counts, including aggravated DUI, possessing a weapon by a prohibited person, leaving the scene of a serious injury crash and driving on a revoked license.
Bail was set at $120,000 and Tilley remained there Tuesday afternoon.
The incident unfolded when an officer tried to stop a BMW driving “erratically” on U.S. 95, police said. When Tilley didn’t yield and reached dangerous speeds while swerving into wrong-way traffic, the officer stopped pursuing him.
Nevertheless, Tilley continued driving recklessly and crashed into a “property,” police said.
Tilley fled the car, ditched a gun and hid in a nearby shed, said police, who noted recovering a second gun in the car.
Tilley was treated for minor injuries before being jailed, police said.
