Henderson Police shoot burglary suspect during foot pursuit

Tue, Jan 12, 2021 (12:05 a.m.)

A Henderson Police officer shot a “known” burglary suspect they were surveilling in a Henderson storage facility Monday night, according to Capt. Kirk Moore.

The officer opened fire when the alleged burglar pulled out a gun during a foot pursuit, striking him once, Moore said.

The shooting occurred about 8:50 p.m. at 1011 Stufflebeam Ave., near U.S. 95 and Galleria Drive.

The male suspect, who was wanted in a “significant (number) of cases,” was stabilized at an area hospital, Moore said. He did not fire his gun.

At the time of the shooting, Henderson Police property crimes detectives were conducting the investigation in conjunction with a marked patrol, said Moore, adding that police chose to move in on him there due to the low risk to innocent bystanders.

An officer suffered a minor injury during the chase, Moore said.

The probe was in its preliminary stages, said Moore, noting that the information could change.

This was the first police shooting in Henderson this year, he noted.
