LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Pets need shelter from cold, heat

Tue, Jan 12, 2021 (2 a.m.)

Cold weather is here, and no pet in extreme weather should be left outside overnight. It’s a simple thing to put an old rug or towel by the door and let your pets sleep there for the night. Dogs with short hair, such as pointers, beagles, pit bulls, rottweilers and dobermans, are particularly susceptible to the elements.

Likewise, it should be against the law to leave dogs outside when the temperature is above 90 degrees. Many dogs die but go unnoticed and are replaced with another to languish in the heat. Please notify Animal Control or call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 if you are aware of a dog living outside in the extreme heat or cold.

Dogs that live outside should have a doghouse to shelter them from the wind, sun or cold. Your pets have been loyal to you, loved you unconditionally and are always happy for any attention you give them. They deserve to be in at night when it is cold. Isn’t that the least you can do for man’s best friend? It isn’t too much to ask.
