After watching the Senate procedure to commence the impeachment trial, it occurred to me the fallacy of it all. This is not a trial based on the rule of law or the Constitution.
Twenty of the Senators who are on the “jury” are up for reelection in 2022. Their position has nothing to do with the facts, only their campaigns. Any trial rooted in law would have eliminated them from sitting on a jury.
I realize this is an unprecedented procedure and it is all we have to work with, but it seems like a huge waste of time given all the other problems facing this nation.
