An elderly man who hadn’t been seen since February was the victim of a homicide, his body found in a closet of his Pahrump home Thursday, the Nye County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

This afternoon, authorities in Colorado arrested a man who’d been seen using the victim's home in the subsequent months, officials said.

Jeff Caraballo, 38, was taken into custody by a fugitive task force in Aurora, Colo., where he was being held on a murder warrant, officials said. He's expected to be extradited to Nye County in the coming days.

On Thursday, sheriff’s deputies responded to the victim’s home in the 1100 block of Six Shooter Avenue, near state Route 372 and Blagg Road, about 65 miles west of Las Vegas, officials said.

Caraballo had given “several reasons” as to why he was in the victim’s home, said officials, who didn’t expound on whom he’d allegedly told.

Law enforcement obtained a warrant to search the home and found the victim’s remains and evidence that he’d been killed, officials said.

As the investigation continued into Thursday night, authorities determined that Caraballo had fled to Colorado, said officials, adding that Nye County detectives flew there Friday morning.

Additional information was not immediately available.
