Bishop Gorman surrendered a point for the first time since mid-September tonight in a 63-6 win over Foothill in the class 5A playoffs.

LJ Wallick’s long touchdown run were the first points the Gaels have given up in six weeks, although it hardly mattered in what was a complete domination by the perennial state power Gaels in advancing to face Liberty in next week’s Southern Regional title game.

“It was impressive,” Gorman coach Brent Browner said of the string of six straight shutouts. “But it always had been a bigger story outside of our building than inside.”

After the score, Browner said Foothill barely had any offense. And the Gorman defense also accounted for points when Garrett Pomerantz had an interception return for a score. It was Gorman’s first interception return of the season.

“Just a great football player and tough kid,” Browner said of Pomerantz.

Quarterback Micah Alejado passed for four touchdowns and rushed for another, connecting with Jonathan Brady, Elija Lofton, Jaylon Edmond and Maleik Pabon for scores.

Cam Gray and Micah Kaapana had rushing scores, and Styles Stockham passed for a score.

That brings us to next week and a highly anticipated showdown with Liberty. In 2019, Liberty ended Gorman’s streak of 10 consecutive state championships.
