LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

New leadership needed at CCSD

Mon, Nov 8, 2021 (2 a.m.)

There is no administrator shortage. Reduce the number of school district administrators immediately.

Building principals should be paid more than district administrators, with a few exceptions such as CFO, legal, etc.

In general, people who are farther from students should not get paid more than the people who are with students.

Also, teachers and administrators should have to serve in schools every couple of years so they don’t get out of touch with reality — like trying to get students to do school work instead of the hundreds of things they would rather do on their phones.

Many students struggle with motivation to keep up under the new grading system. When some finally realize they don’t know the material, it’s too late.

Give more power to individual schools and institute conditional open enrollment so parents can switch schools if they aren’t happy. Make waiting list numbers public so we can have transparency and accountability.

Give schools options in dealing with outrageously disrespectful and disruptive students.

The Clark County School District’s continual problems were made worse by the departing superintendent, and his recent message was so outlandish and out of touch. He surrounded himself with yes people and failed to utilize or respect CCSD’s greatest resource — its employees.

A good leader welcomes addressing diverse points of view before making a decision instead of stifling all dissent after a poorly vetted bad decision.
