The Desert Oasis football team usually dresses about 55 players on Friday nights.

But tonight, because of COVID protocols, the Diamondbacks were down to about 30 players for a road game at Chaparral, including many pulled up from the junior varsity team.

The Diamondbacks fell behind by 14 points in the first half but stormed back thanks to about 500 passing yards from Tyler Stott and scored the winning points with seconds remaining in a 42-39 victory.

Stott’s 30-yard scoring strike to Isaiah Flasher with less than 10 seconds to play provided the winning points.

“Our kids are going to fight. They know how to fight,” Desert Oasis coach Brant Smith said.

Flasher had more than 200 yards receiving and two scores, Stott also rushed for a touchdown, and freshman Troi Finch — one of the junior varsity players — had a 35-yard touchdown.

“This should give us a big boost, but like aways we have to get back to work and get better,” Smith said.
