A man booked on a murder charge allegedly shot his fiancee's brother after an argument turned physical last week, according to a Metro Police arrest report.

Miguel Perez, 26, was arrested on Friday and booked on open murder and two counts of battery after police say he fatally shot Francisco Ibarra on Oct. 3. Perez has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Oct. 26, court records show.

Metro received a call on Oct. 3 at 3:37 p.m. from Ibarra’s sister stating he had been shot inside of their Las Vegas apartment in the 4500 block of West Sahara Avenue, near Arville Street. The man who shot him was later identified as Perez, the fiance of Ibarra’s sister. Officers and medical personnel responded to the scene and transported Ibarra to University Medical Center, where he later died, according to the report.

Police later learned that Ibarra lived in the apartment with his mother, sister, Perez, and Perez’s 4-year-old daughter. The family began arguing after Ibarra’s mother gave him money to buy a money order to pay for rent, and instead came home intoxicated without the money order and began arguing with family.

Perez stepped in to say Ibarra shouldn’t speak that way to his family, according to the report. Investigators believe Ibarra and Perez started fighting before Ibarra was shot at least twice.

Perez admitted to police on Oct. 4 that he shot Ibarra with a .22-caliber handgun while the two were fighting, according to the report.

He was arrested on Oct. 7 for unrelated charges, police said.
