Zachariah Branch had two touchdown receptions from Micah Alejado to help the Bishop Gorman football beat visiting Palo Verde 49-0 tonight in the Gaels homecoming game.

At the beginning of the week, coach Brent Browner asked his players which school they considered their rival. The overwhelming response was Liberty, who beat Gorman in the 2019 playoffs to end a streak of 10 consecutive state titles. But Browner reminded players of the proximity of Palo Verde — around the corner in Summerlin — and the history of close games between the schools in the late 2000s.

Browner was happy with the outcome, saying “the guys played amazing.”

Alejado passed for 175 yards and three touchdowns, Elija Lofton and Jonathan Brady had receiving touchdowns, and William Stallings Jr. had a pair of rushing scores. Devon Rice also scored on the ground.

Gorman concludes the regular season next week at Foothill in what will determine the league champion. And, in a few weeks, a playoff game with that other rival — Liberty — is on the horizon.
