Josiah Vitale completed 15 of 19 passes for 270 yards and two touchdowns tonight for the Green Valley football team in a 31-27 win over Faith Lutheran.

Jaylen McKnight added 156 rushing yards on 20 carries, while Vitale and Josiah Edwards had rushing touchdowns to lead the Gators to the No. 2 playoff seed. It hosts Foothill next week in the initial round.

“We had a good regular season,” Green Valley coach Brian Castro said. “Anytime you can play at home in the playoffs, that’s a good idea.”

Faith Lutheran made things interesting by scoring two touchdowns in the final six minutes. But, fortunately for Green Valley, its defense had four interceptions — from Owen Adams, Blayne Reiner, Anton Keeling and Kendall Ayersman — in building a comfortable lead.

“Defense, those kids played great,” Castro said. “We got turnovers. We stopped the run. We did what we wanted to do.”

Nate Richter had scoring receptions of 59 and 76 yards.

For Faith Lutheran, Jordan Pollard and Vaea Tangitau had interception returns for a touchdown in the first quarter to help the Crusaders briefly lead.
