Maverik Cormier rushed and passed for a touchdown tonight to help the Durango football team build a three-touchdown halftime lead against Desert Oasis in the first round of the playoffs.

Although the Trailblazers didn’t score in the second half, they were able to hold off Desert Oasis’ second-half surge in a 21-18 victory.

“That was an exciting one,” Durango coach Toby Henry said.

Daurell Ilaoa had a short touchdown run and Jaxon Young accounted for a receiving touchdown as Durango advances to next week's state quarterfinal to face Shadow Ridge. Durango lost by two points earlier in the season to the Mustangs.

“They are physical. They are a good team,” Henry said of Shadow Ridge. “We are going to have our hands full.”
