Clark County officials today announced an incentive of $100 for unvaccinated residents to get their first COVID-19 jab during a two-day, pop-up clinic in east Las Vegas later this month.

The first 500 unvaccinated people to show up each day — Sept. 18-19 — to Eldorado High School will get the gift card, officials said in a news release.

“People at high risk for COVID-19 often have less access to health care and many may still need to get vaccinated to keep their jobs,” Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom said in the release. “The key to putting the pandemic behind us is to boost our community’s vaccination rate as high as it can go. We hope this pilot program will be a special incentive for families to take time out over a weekend to get their shots.”

Segerblom previously said the $100,000 for the gift cards was being carved out of federal COVID-19 relief aid. The three vaccines will be available, including the Pfizer jab, which recently received full approval by the Food and Drug Administration.

About 60% of the vaccine-eligible population in Clark County had initiated vaccination as of today, while 51% was fully vaccinated, according to the Nevada COVID dashboard. The county is reporting 5,255 deaths and at least 305,401 infections since the onset of the pandemic in March 2020.

The high school location, 1139 N. Linn Lane, near Washington Avenue, east of Nellis Boulevard, was strategically chosen because it sits among ZIP codes reporting the highest numbers of COVID-19 cases in the Las Vegas Valley, officials said.

Officials encouraged residents to reserve an appointment at vax4nv.nv.gov, although some walk-ups also will be accepted. Children getting the vaccine, who are over the age of 12, will require adult supervision. Booster shots will only be given to the immunocompromised per government guidelines.

The clinic will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days, said officials, noting that only those who haven’t gotten the jab are eligible for the gift card.

"It’s important that we boost our vaccination rates in the hardest hit communities, and this incentive is another way to encourage people who are perhaps on the fence about getting vaccinated," said Clark County Commissioner William McCurdy II in the release.
