Late arrival doesn’t slow Virgin Valley in win at Pahrump

The bus bringing the Virgin Valley football team from Mesquite to Pahrump on Friday night blew a tire to delay kickoff by about 90 minutes.

Even though the Virgin Valley players were stuck on the bus for more than three hours, they wasted little time once arriving in a 42-18 victory.

They only received 20 minutes to warm up and “we definitely didn’t look our best,” coach Matt Woods said.

Gavin Brown still had a strong game in completing 17-of-20 passes for 231 yards and two touchdowns, and Ethan Workman rushed for 107 yards and two scores. Kellen Dugan also amassed 100 rushing yards.

Jimmy Kelly had eight receptions for 144 yards, Jared Jensen finished with four grabs for 40 yards and a touchdown, and Cameron Perkins had two catches for 37 yards. Defensively, Martin Jordan had an interception return for a touchdown.

“It was definitely a good effort,” Woods said. “The kids played good after having to sit on the bus for that many hours. It was a mess for sure.”
