A man who reportedly tried to start a fight with a restaurant employee was struck by a vehicle and killed today as he fled from officers, according to Metro Police.

Officers responded about 4:30 a.m. to a restaurant in the 7000 block of West Craig Road for a report of a disturbance, police said. The business reported a man with a knife was trying to start a fight with an employee, police said.

Officers spotted the suspect outside the restaurant and issued him verbal commands, police said. He initially complied but then fled on foot with officers chasing him, police said.

The man jumped a freeway wall and started crossing U.S. 95 when he was hit by a vehicle in the southbound lanes, police said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident closed the southbound lanes of the freeway this morning from Craig Road to Cheyenne Avenue.
