Mr. Las Vegas is back on the Strip next month at the Flamingo.

Thu, Sep 23, 2021 (2 a.m.)

Upcoming Strat resident headliner Sammy Hagar gave the Strip a little taste of what’s to come Wednesday night with a concert on the Beer Park rooftop at Paris Las Vegas to launch his new Sammy’s Beach Bar Cocktail Co. The product is a canned sparkling rum drink that comes in four flavors and will be available this month in Nevada, Texas and California.

Considering his successful Cabo Wabo restaurant and bar outlet planted at the heart of the Strip at the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood and his sold-out “Sammy Hagar and Friends” residency show kicking off at the Strat Showroom October 29 and 30, I had to ask the Red Rocker if he’s ever considered relocating full-time to Sin City.

“I’ve considered moving here for tax reasons because it’s brutal living in California,” Hagar said during our conversation in the Cabo Wabo loft Tuesday. “But I’m a beach nut. Everywhere I live has got to have an ocean. I can’t stand not having a big piece of water I can walk on every day. It’s like my therapy. As soon as I hit the wall and I’m done for the day, I hit the beach, and this cocktail is the best thing that ever happened to walking on the beach.”

Hagar wrapped a new album with his band the Circle while stuck at home during the pandemic and said spending time on the beach also saved him from COVID-caused creativity issues. You can listen to our complete conversation in an upcoming episode of the Sun on the Strip podcast right here at LasVegasSun.com.

Las Vegas legend Wayne Newton made it official this week: He’s returning to live performances on the Strip at the Flamingo on October 23 and it’s the same casino where he made his Strip debut in 1963. Tickets go on sale this Friday, September 24, for the return of Newton’s “Up Close and Personal” show that includes fascinating storytelling from his long, unique career and plenty of music. The Bugsy’s Cabaret space will be the site, also home to “X Burlesque,” and the 160-seater will be perfectly intimate for interaction with fans as well as offering a larger stage than Newton’s most recent venue, Cleopatra’s Barge at Caesars Palace. Newton will perform at 7:30 p.m. on select dates through January 1, and likely beyond.

Plenty of other big concert and comedy announcements tumbled in this week. Bill Burr will return to his comedy residency at the Chelsea at the Cosmopolitan on November 19 and 20. Pop rockers Maroon 5 will be back in Las Vegas for their traditional New Year’s Eve set with shows on December 30 and 31 also at the Chelsea. And classic rock outfit Foreigner has booked eight shows at the Venetian Theatre in March and April of next year.

Party band Zowie Bowie, comedian and impressionist John Di Domenico and “Tenors of Rock” singer Jimmy Denning are slated to perform at the fifth annual St. Jude’s Ranch for Children Wine, Women & Shoes fundraiser sponsored by Ferraro’s restaurant at the M Resort Pavilion on October 3. The event will benefit programs for abused, neglected and homeless children and youth and will also include brunch, wine tastings, boutique shopping, a silent auction, raffles, contests and more.
