LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Water is our paramount issue

Thu, Apr 28, 2022 (2 a.m.)

Without adequate clean water, we have nothing — no economy, no jobs, no future, no life. That’s why it’s essential for Southwesterners to conserve and collaborate now to raise our water future.

In the hot grip of this 1,200-year drought, the Colorado River offers us much less water than we’re counting on. We can keep praying for more snow and rain, but our dusty reality also demands we take stronger action for water savings with our partners in the lower Colorado River basin (Arizona, California and Mexico).

Luckily, we can still save ourselves and the river by moving now for smarter water management. For a greener future, Nevada needs water-wise, pragmatic decision makers to lead by example and help move states and the U.S. Interior Department to a new, science-based river plan.

The writer is a candidate for state Senate.
