Zion Gonsalves caught two touchdowns for Desert Oasis in a 55-0 win at Bonanza on Friday night.

It was a much-needed win for the Diamondbacks (1-1) after being shut out 14-0 in their season opener at home last week against Basic.

"It was a good feeling," Desert Oasis coach Brant Smith said. "It was good to get the win, good to get the shutout. Proud of the boys. Bonanza fought hard."

Aiden Grobl returned a kickoff for a touchdown and also caught a score, while running back Falcon Strong ran for over 120 yards and two scores.

Mistakes in the red zone cost Desert Oasis last week against the Wolves, getting inside the 20 three times but not capitalizing. Smith said he was pleased with the way his group tidied things up this week.

After looking at the tape, considering many Diamondbacks were playing in their first varsity game, he felt better coming out of last week upon looking at the film.

"Still got some things to clean up, but we did a lot of the good things this week," Smith said. "It was encouraging after watching the film. It's never encouraging after getting shut out, but as I was watching the film, it was like, 'we're not that bad.'"

Desert Oasis will have a bye next week before continuing this three-game road trek, starting with Spring Valley on Sept. 9.
