Family members, a Nevada Army National Guard official and Las Vegas police pleaded Thursday for public help to identify people in a car from which gunshots were fired at a Halloween house party, killing a 22-year-old Guard member and wounding two other people.
Las Vegas police Lt. Ray Spencer told reporters that investigators have had trouble identifying five men who were denied entry to the weekend party at a rented house, and people in the four-door sedan that drove away before police arrived early Oct. 31.
Graciela Gomez died of a gunshot to the abdomen, the Clark County coroner said, and police said two people went to hospitals for treatment of less severe injuries.
Spencer was joined in the news briefing by Nevada Guard Brig. Gen. Troy Armstrong and members of Graciela Gomez’s family.
“God willing we could find those responsible,” said Gomez’s mother, Concepcion Velasquez-Gomez.
Gomez graduated from Las Vegas High School and was a member of the Las Vegas-based 17th Sustainment Brigade who worked with the COVID-19 Task Force during the coronavirus pandemic.
Spencer asked anyone who was at the party but had not spoken with detectives to reach out to police.
“You may have the little piece of the puzzle that solves this murder,” he said.
