LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Reporters: Back away from road

Sun, Jan 23, 2022 (2 a.m.)

Why am I not surprised? It had to happen, sooner or later!

A TV reporter in Dunbar, W. Va., was struck by a passing vehicle while reporting.

Fortunately, it seems she was not injured — she was very lucky, as the vehicle appeared to be moving slowly. I hope she is OK.

I have watched time and again reporters trotted out to stand so close to the side of the road to issue live reports. I have hoped repeatedly that they do not get hit by passing cars, since the practice is an obvious distraction to passing drivers, who are often traveling at high speeds.

I sincerely hope TV stations take note of what could have happened in this case and put their reporters in a safer position than standing so close to the road. Is it really that necessary?
