Landon Wrzesinski scored a touchdown, passed for a 2-point conversion and had a game-ending interception at the goalline tonight for the Moapa Valley football team in an 8-7 victory against visiting Boulder City in the state quarterfinals.

Boulder City led 7-0 at halftime, but defending state champion Moapa Valley finally scored with two minutes remaining in the third quarter on a 2-yard run from Wrzesinski.

With the momentum, Pirates coach Brent Lewis elected to attempt a 2-point conversion and called the same play — a sweep to the right for Wrzesinski. But Wrzesinski stopped and tossed the ball to wide open Joe Whitmore for the conversion and winning points.

Boulder City had a chance to win late in driving the ball to inside the Moapa Valley 10-yard line. With about 25 seconds remaining, Wrzesinski soared high for an interception at the 2-yard line.

The Pirates will play Nov. 13 in the state semifinals in Northern Nevada. The opponent hasn’t been determined.
