Moapa Valley’s Jayden Bunker picked the ideal time to have a career night.

The Pirates defensive back had two interception returns for a touchdown to lead Moapa Valley to a 19-6 win over rival Virgin Valley in the annual Hammer Game.

“The defense came up huge tonight,” Moapa Valley coach Brent Lewis said.

Landon Wrzesinski started the scoring for Moapa Valley with a 7-yard touchdown run, helping the Pirates cap off an undefeated 10-0 regular season.

Moapa Valley graduated many of the top contributors from last year’s state championship team and wasn’t expected to again be undefeated. Now they are three wins away from another state crown.

“This team has gotten steadily better each week, and I don’t think we are as good as we can be yet,” Lewis said.
