The Liberty High football team lost tonight for the third straight week, and there is no sugar-coating a 45-8 defeat to Atascocita of Texas because “that’s the worst we have played this year,” coach Rich Muraco said.

The Liberty losing streak isn’t the end of the world, especially when considering the competition and conditions. Liberty in consecutive weeks has played in Utah, San Diego and Texas — a tough road schedule for any team, let alone of program of teenagers.

“It’s a good thing any time you can play a quality opponent and your starters get a lot of reps where they are challenged,” Muraco said.

Muraco says the defeats give the coaching staff plenty of game film to study with hopes of fixing the weaknesses.

“That’s part of coaching; looking at the film and making adjustments,” he said.

Tyrese Smith had a short touchdown run for Liberty’s points.
