The Boulder City High football team won this game with its defense.

The Eagles held Virgin Valley out of the end zone on eight plays from inside their 5-yard line in the second half tonight for an 8-6 victory on the road in Mesquite.

“It was a defensive battle, a field position battle,” Boulder City coach Chris Morelli said.

Bruce Woodbury had a touchdown run, and Jacob Bryant rushed in for the 2-point conversion for an 8-0 Boulder City lead at halftime. That was all the scoring Boulder City would need to remain in the thick of the class 3A standings.

It appears the teams are evenly matched.

Moapa Valley, the defending state champions, won 7-6 tonight in Pahrump. Earlier in the season Moapa Valley rallied late to top Boulder City.

And Boulder City travels to Pahrump next week.

“We’ve got some things to clean up,” Morelli said. “We put ourselves in some holes we had to dig out of tonight.”
