The Bishop Gorman football team scored on nine of its 10 possessions today in a 63-42 win at Corner Canyon of Utah in the season opener.

Gorman, ranked No. 2 nationally by MaxPreps, trailed in the first half and had a hard time slowing down the Corner Canyon offense led by Utah University commit Isaac Wilson. The quarterback passed for three touchdowns and rushed for two more, according to the Deseret News.

“We didn’t (schedule) this team so we could beat them by 70 points,” Gorman coach Brent Browner said. “They are tough. They’ve got some dude. And we have some dudes, too. That’s why we play these games.”

University of Michigan-commit Micah Kaapana had three rushing touchdowns on runs of 13, 71 and 44 yards. DeVon Rice rushed for two scores, and also had a touchdown reception on a pass from Micah Alejado.

Alejado, the reigning Nevada player of the year, had a pair of touchdown passes to Keytrin Harris.

Gorman’s defense wasn’t nearly as successful, but Browner said they were a play or two away from having a better result.

“Defensively, we were right there,” he said. “We didn’t make the plays when we needed to get off the field.”
