The Clark County School District is monitoring the severe weather in Las Vegas and plans to host classes as scheduled on Monday, officials said Saturday afternoon.

Officials sent a similar note to parents 7 p.m. Sunday, noting "lighter weather impacts than previously expected."

The National Weather Service office in Nevada projected historic flooding for the area between Sunday night and Monday morning. A meteorologist with the service said it is hard to predict where flooding will happen in Clark County and said some school buildings could be more impacted than others.

“If the storm impacts our schools” the release says. “We will communicate through CCSD’s social media accounts and directly with parents via ParentLink.”

In Nye County, where flooding is more severe, the Nye County School District issued notice Sunday that classes would be canceled on Monday.

"Due to the Declaration of Local Emergency of the Nye County Board of Commissioners and the recommendation to shelter in place, the Nye County School District will be closing schools tomorrow, Monday, August 21, 2023," officials wrote to parents. "This decision was made out of extreme caution for the safety of all Nye County School District students and staff."

The cancelation includes extra-curricular activities, and athletic practices and events.
