Gunner Cortez passed for 260 yards and four touchdowns for the Virgin Valley football team in a 41-6 victory over visiting Needles of California.

Chase Otteson had a monster day with four catches for 153 yards and score, while Asher Jackson hauled in three passes for 67 yards and a touchdown.

After losing the season opener last week to Canyon Springs in the Thursday Night Lights television game, Virgin Valley made significant improvements, coach Matt Woods said.

“We definitely cleaned some things up,” he said.

Decker Lee rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown, and Cortez also scored on the ground.

“I’m excited about this group of kids,” Woods said. “They enjoy playing together. They enjoy rooting for each other.”
