With extreme heat coming, cooling stations open

Clark County announced today that, due to anticipated extreme heat conditions over the weekend, cooling centers will be open across the region.

Daytime cooling centers will be open for people to escape the heat. The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning today, with temperatures expected to exceed 100 degrees starting Friday.

People can visit the following cooling centers:

• Walnut Recreation Center: Monday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• Person Community Center: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• Hollywood Recreation Center: Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sauturday, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

• Courtyard Homeless Resource Center: 24 hours a day.

• Cambridge Recreation Center: Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

• Alexander Library: Monday and Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• Whitney Recreation Center: Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

• Downtown Recreation Center: Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

• Downtown Senior Center: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

• Libraries in Clark County also serve as cooling stations, and there will be two more cooling locations in Laughlin, according to county officials.

• The American Legion Richard Spingston Post 60 at 1510 Bruce Woodbury Drive will operate from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on days with temperatures over 112 degrees.

• The Colorado River Food Bank at 240 Laughlin Civic Drive will be open from 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Monday through Friday.
