Eric Mosley scored three different ways tonight for the Canyon Springs football team in a 40-14 win against Chaparral in the Class 4A Desert League semifinals.

Mosley returned a punt for a touchdown, rushed for a score and had a touchdown reception to help the Pioneers win in blowout fashion for the third straight week. More importantly, they won a pair of playoff games at home.

Tysean McCraney had two touchdown passes for Canyon Springs, hooking up with Mosley and Major Pride. Defensively, Seven Thomas had a fumble return for a score.

The win puts Canyon Springs in the regional championship game against Sunrise Mountain — the only team it has lost to this season.

“A lot of people will say, ‘You needed that (loss),’” Burts said of the initial meeting. “I’m not one of those guys. What’s wrong with going undefeated? The harsh reality is you can’t lose again, because when you lose, you have to turn in your pads.”

Canyon Springs has worked the past month since the loss in eliminating mistakes, Burts said.

“Too many times on offense we were starting behind the (first down) sticks because of holding and false start penalties,” Burts said.
