Faith Lutheran’s Cale Breslin opened the scoring Friday night in the Class 5A-Division II regional semifinals against Foothill with a 45-yard touchdown run.

By time the visiting Crusaders put the finishing touches on a 43-22 win, Breslin had 176 rushing yards on 22 carries and two touchdowns as Faith Lutheran’s physical run game was the difference.

Faith Lutheran, the No. 3 seed in the regional, hosts Green Valley, the No. 4 seed, in next week’s championship game.

“We are so excited to keep playing,” coach Mike Sanford said. “It’s kind of amazing to be the third seed and get a home game at this time of the year.”

Quarterback Garyt Odom added nine carries for 67 yards and a touchdown, Caden Chittenden had three field goals, and Wandley Wilson had an interception return for a score.

The Crusaders also scored through the air with Odom tossing a 21-yard touchdown pass to Cade Keith.

“We have been an improving team as the season has gone on,” Sanford said.

He said the same is true of Green Valley, whom they beat 30-14 in the first game of division play Sept. 8.

“They are very similar to us in that they are a much different team from when we last played them,” Sanford said.
