Degan Jones had a career day for the Moapa Valley football team in the state quarterfinals against visiting Boulder City with six touchdowns in a 62-14 victory.

Jones, who recently returned to the lineup after missing games with injury, had three carries for 67 yards and two touchdowns, three touchdown receptions and 144 receiving yards, and a 65-yard kickoff return for a score.

“He did a little bit of everything tonight,” coach Brent Lewis said.

Shandon Matheson rushed nine times for 89 yards and a touchdown, and Talon Schraft completed 5 of 7 passes for 189 yards and three touchdowns.

The win helped Moapa Valley extend their impressive home playoff streak. Since moving to their new campus in 1993, the Pirates have lost just one home playoff game — to Sunrise Mountain in 2017.

The rest of the playoffs, unfortunately for Moapa Valley, will be contested on the road.

They advance to play the winner of Saturday’s quarterfinal game in Northern Nevada between Truckee and Spring Creek. Defending state champion Truckee is undefeated, meaning a likely showdown between the Class 3A powers Nov. 11 in Truckee, Calif.
