Damien Nevil rushed for three touchdowns and 240 yards tonight in leading SLAM Nevada to a 28-21 win over Virgin Valley in the Class 3A state quarterfinals.

SLAM will host Elko in the state semifinals Nov. 11.

“Battling statewide competition is where we want to be,” coach Mike Cofer said. “Virgin Valley is a good football team, and we were ecstatic to compete with those guys.”

SLAM is using its experience in last season’s playoffs, when it finished as the state runner-up, to navigate this season’s run.

“We haven’t worn down as much because we are more physically developed,” Cofer said.

That helped them against Virgin Valley, because “we were down and out at halftime. We weren’t playing with very much energy,” Cofer said.

Matt Boles Jr. contributed a touchdown reception for SLAM.
