Auhsoj Cunningham’s touchdown run and ensuing 2-point conversion run with about 90 seconds remaining tonight helped the Sunrise Mountain football team avoid a playoff upset against Eldorado with a 36-35 victory.

Sunrise Mountain won the Class 4A Mountain League’s regular season title to earn a bye in the first round of the playoffs last week. The week off didn’t help.

“We weren’t ready to go,” coach Chris Sawyers said. “Eldorado took it to us. They exposed us a bit.”

Cunningham tallied four touchdowns to save the game, and Elijah Redic had a receiving touchdown.

Sunrise Mountain advances to play Canyon Springs in next week’s league championship game.

“We have to get ourselves ready to play football more effectively,” Sawyers said.
