Thomas Marcellino returned a fumble for a touchdown tonight for the Sunrise Mountain football team in a 26-21 victory against Chaparral to secure a No. 1 seed in the playoffs.
Kendric Rice also had a fumble return for a score for the Miners, while Marcellino had a receiving touchdown and Auhsoj Cunningham rushed for a score.
“We moved the ball up and down the field (in the first half) but stepped on our toes a few times in the red zone,” coach Chris Sawyers said.
Sunrise Mountain receives a bye next week in the initial round of the postseason.
