Sean Sampson had a short touchdown run and Caden Chittenden kicked three field goals tonight for the Faith Lutheran football team in a 30-14 win against visiting Green Valley.
It was likely the first time Faith Lutheran had beaten Green Valley in its history, although Faith Lutheran has mostly been a small classification school until about 10 years ago.
“We played with a sense of urgency,” Faith Lutheran coach Mike Sanford said. “The kids played hard. Our defense played really, really hard.”
The defensive effort included a 30-yard interception return for a touchdown from Nick Duffy. Cole Keith scored Faith Lutheran’s other points on a touchdown pass from Alex Rogers.
“We have improved in the passing game,” Sanford said. “The passing game has really been developing.”
The victory snapped a two-game losing streak for Faith Lutheran. And it came at a perfect time — the league opener.
“That was big for us,” Sanford said.
Jack Thow had two touchdown passes for Green Valley, connecting with Trey Glasper and Sean Mills.
